McCrossin Foundations installed thirty-seven 7-inch diameter micropiles in downtown Lancaster for foundation support of a new office building. A four-story row home, occupied by several businesses throughout its history, had previously existed on the site, and was completely demolished to the subgrade to make room for the new building structure. Being in downtown Lancaster, the site was especially challenging due to access.

This site was approximately 25-feet wide by 100-feet long between two existing four-story buildings on either side. The only way in and out of the site was by a one-way alley on the backside of the site, which was to shared by the operating business surrounding the site. One of McCrossin Foundations’ smaller drill rigs was used, which has a footprint of about 40 square feet to install the micropiles. With varying depths to rock across the site (ranging from 10 feet to 50 feet), old foundation obstructions within the subsurface, and limited access and movement, this project was quite challenging. Great collaboration between the Construction Manager and surrounding businesses allowed the work to be completed in a timely manner.
